Can you share your name, where you’re based, what you do, and a little bit about yourself?
My name is Spencer Fund, I'm based out of Lehi, Utah. I just graduated with a degree in computer science last year and I'm currently working as a software engineer in a startup. I love traveling, especially to France where my mom's family is from, and spending time enjoying the outdoors!
What money goals did you have when you first downloaded Origin?
My wife and I wanted a good solution for tracking our money together, and to start saving to buy a home. As college students making very little money, we wanted to make sure we knew where every dollar was going to be able to work on achieving our goals.
What’s your financial story? What motivated you to get serious about money, and where are you hoping to go from here?
Learning about how money works has been a pretty recent development in my life. I wish there had been more opportunities growing up to learn about topics such as credit, investing, saving, and budgeting. So I'm kind of coming in as a beginner, and I feel like I've already been able to learn so much in just a short time.
I want to keep learning more about how I can best use the money I earn to help me now and in the future. I want to also teach my children these things to make sure they can have a solid financial foundation for their lives.
With the current market ups and downs, how are you feeling about your finances, and what helps you stay steady?
I feel pretty good about my finances right now. I've been able to plan and prepare for emergencies and financial downturns, while making good long-term investments that should be able to weather market volatility.
Tell us about a specific win — big or small — that Origin helped you achieve.
One of the biggest wins I've had using Origin was really kickstarting the process of learning about financial topics for me. Having so many finance options available in one app helped me get interested in diving in and learning about each feature and topic. And now that I have the knowledge, I have a place where I can do all of those things.
What advice would you give someone starting with Origin on their financial journey?
All the features available in Origin might seem daunting at first, but you don't have to use all of them right away. Focus on your initial goal — maybe it's budgeting, for example — and just get familiar with that topic and Origin's related feature. Once you feel pretty comfortable with it, you can start exploring other features.
