Senior Frontend Engineer

Overview

Origin is a financial well-being platform that partners with innovative employers to keep employees happy, healthy, and on the road to financial success. We believe that protecting your assets, family and future shouldn’t require a PhD in finance, so we built a company that puts financial management on auto pilot.

Origin makes it easy and affordable for companies to offer a suite of best-in-class financial tools including student loan repayment, 401k optimization, savings tools, and debt management. We are the only holistic financial benefit that provides financial planning to every employee, everywhere. No middle men. No confusing terms. Just simplicity.

Our team is led by repeat founders and is backed by leading VC firms like Founders Fund, Felicis and General Catalyst.

1. Why should I work at Origin?

Let’s cut to the chase: the top reason to work at Origin is that you want to write great code at an industry-changing company.

You will work on a recent codebase, build state-of-the-art products from scratch and have an outsized impact on our technical decisions. You will be part of an all-star tech team led by Origin’s CTO, who has 10 years of experience as a co-founder and a technology leader at venture-backed companies.

Origin is not your standard startup. It has raised over 70M dollars and is backed by some of the world’s best investors. Its founding team is comprised of serial entrepreneurs who have done it before and want to do it better. This is a unique opportunity to work at a hyper-growth high-potential Silicon Valley company while being able to work from anywhere you choose to.

If you are up for the challenge, keep reading!

2. How will my day to day be?

You will be writing code 70% of your time. We have several products to create, software to expand and only so many hands, so expect to get yours dirty soon and often.

20% of your time will be dedicated to keeping (and raising) the technical bar inside Origin. You will do code reviews, take part in architecture discussions, recommend books & articles to your colleagues (and read their recommendations), interview candidates and raise engineering problems before those happen.

The rest of your time will (unfortunately, we know) be taken by meetings. You will join us for our meetings, be it our daily standup, our all-hands or our sprint plannings, plus an individual one on one with your Engineering Manager every other week.

3. What else will I love about Origin?

Origin’s culture is unlike most startups (and next-to-all big companies) in Brazil. We give, receive and act on feedback all the time, holding no grudges and keeping no filter – all of us are aligned around the same mission and have the same objectives. We value work-life balance, so we do not track hours and have an open vacation policy. We know knowledge workers like yourself need to rest and take breaks, so we expect your time in the office to be time working so your time away can belong entirely to you. We keep a quiet environment and avoid interrupting each other. We go straight to the point and talk about problems when we see it.

Origin also offers:

  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity package
  • Unlimited access to financial planning
  • Health annual stipend for you and your family
  • Wellness stipend
  • Monthly coworking membership reimbursement
  • Build your home-office budget
  • Pick your setup (Apple, Windows, Linux) and accessories
  • Open vacation policy
  • Remote-first culture
  • Flexible hours
  • Off-sites
  • English tuition reimbursement for international employees

4. Remote-first Location

Origin is proud to be a remote-first company! Employees have the option to work remotely or at one of our offices in New York or São Paulo. Employees may occasionally travel to an Origin office or off-site for meetings or team-building events.

5. Who is Origin looking for?

Remember when we said you should work here so you could write great code? Now you know why: we have no other option. We are building multiple consumer-facing products in a regulated fault-intolerant industry. This hasn’t been accomplished before for a reason, and we will succeed only if we create flexible, reliable and reusable software that allows us to move fast without breaking anything.

So, while you don’t need to know the technologies we are currently using (React, Typescript), you need to be an engineer who is:

  • Intellectually rigorous;
  • Relentlessly resourceful;
  • Technically excellent;
  • Good at giving and receiving feedback;
  • A model professional; and,
  • A good English speaker
