Get a behind-the-scenes look at life at Origin and hear first-hand from our team of Originals

Our co-founders Matt Watson and Joao de Paula started Origin with one goal in mind: To help people reach financially healthy lives while creating a great place to work. In this series, get a behind-the-scenes look at life at Origin and hear first-hand from Originals about why they enjoy coming to work every day so much.Today, we’re thrilled to spotlight Gabe Attilio, who is based out of São Paulo, Brazil. As a product designer, her primary role at Origin is to help the design team evolve from a technical and operational perspective. Outside of work, Gabe’s interests are wide and varied. She spends her time reading, cuddling with her cats, and staying active by biking and dancing. Fun fact: Gabe has a master’s degree in behavioral economics, and she’s constantly enhancing her knowledge by studying related fields like psychology and anthropology. In our conversation with Gabe, you’ll learn why she fell in love with Origin’s mission (we think you will, too!) and the simple rule she follows to keep her finances in check.

Q. What made you want to work at Origin? I believe that the role of product design is to improve people's lives. So when I started working with products, I wanted to work at a company where the goal is to provide something valuable to people.

When I saw Origin's website, I fell in love with its mission and business model, which aligned with my values as a designer. It's a joy to help build something that allows people to have a better relationship with their money so they can have a higher-quality life.

Q. Can you give us a behind-the-scenes look into a typical day at Origin? As an early-stage startup, it's all about priorities. I usually start my day looking over our quarterly plan and mapping it back to the current day or week. This allows me to focus on things that will bring value to our end-users and customers. From a team and project perspective, I’m usually doing some research plan with our UX researcher, watching user interviews to understand their needs, and pairing with our lovely engineers to polish our understanding of an opportunity we're pursuing. We're constantly talking to each other within our own team—and with our stakeholders—to align on expectations and share progress around the projects we're working on.Q. What does financial wellness mean to you?For me, financial wellness means being able to sleep without the anxiety of thinking about bills and money problems. This allows you to focus on evolving yourself rather than thinking about how you're going to survive the next month.Q. What’s the best financial advice you’ve ever received? It's really basic, but I like using the 50/20/30 rule to organize my finances and plan for the future. This is a budgeting method that splits your income into three buckets: 50% on needs, 30% on wants, and 20% for savings.Q. What’s one thing that people interested in working at Origin should know?

If you're looking to do something meaningful with your skills on a personal and professional level, Origin is the place for you. This is a company where I learn new things every day and have the freedom to propose and start new initiatives that will impact our product. I feel so fulfilled by my work, and words can't explain how happy I am to be here and see the difference we make.

Thank you, Gabe, for sharing your story and being a valued member of our team! If you want to hear from more of our employees, stay tuned. Also, did we mention that we’re hiring? Come work for us to learn why our employees love being Originals!
