A look back and a preview of what’s ahead

Financial wellness delivered to 100k+ people: Origin's 2021 year in review

As we approach the final days of 2021, I wanted to take some time to reflect on Origin’s accomplishments this past year and preview what’s in store for 2022.

Our mission is to make money simple. Our team has remained focused on delivering innovative solutions to help HR and People teams empower their employees to take control of their financial lives with this guiding principle.

Here are a few highlights of what we’ve accomplished together:

We improved employees' financial wellbeing

This year, we hosted 100+ customized financial wellness workshops for employees and worked with 150+ customers across 6 continents to make financial wellness available to more than 100,000 people.

Origin members had a lot to celebrate this year. The top 5 financial goals for our members were:

  1. Buying a home
  2. Taking a vacation
  3. Having a baby
  4. Buying a car
  5. Throwing a wedding party

We expanded to 35 countries

Origin expanded our international financial planner network to support employees in 35 countries—the largest network of its kind. To ensure the highest quality for our planner network, we set the bar high: Origin international financial planners are highly-vetted with decades of combined, in-country experience. We are continuing to expand in additional countries, with plans to more than double our global presence in 2022, so you can deliver a consistent employee experience across all locations. You can read more about how Webflow uses Origin to support their international employees.

We debuted powerful tools

Origin released dozens of new features this year to help HR teams and employees connect the dots between personal finances and total compensation. One of the most popular is Origin’s Equity Manager, which makes it easy for employees to understand the value of their equity and make decisions on whether to take action with their options.Other Origin updates include:

  • Personalized investment and retirement guidance with Origin Investments
  • Total compensation tools, including benefits overview and total compensation statement
  • Cash flow tools that allow people to understand income spending and savings trends

We invested in our community

As our financial planning network grew this year, we were struck by this statistic: less than 5% of Certified Financial Planners™ are Black or Latinx. This sparked a greater conversation company-wide on how diversity, equity, and inclusion fit into the financial services industry.

The result was the launch of the Origin Diversity Program, which recently awarded $50,000 worth of scholarships to aspiring CFPs from diverse backgrounds.

We grew our company

In August, we announced $56 million in Series B funding, which is being used to expand our product and support our global expansion. We have grown our company to more than 100 employees, 250 financial planners, and we’re actively hiring across all departments so we can still deliver the same level of great service.

And there’s more to come

Origin will continue our mission to make money simple. We’ll be expanding our service to more than 90 countries and growing our financial planner network 4x.

Our product is expanding to include enhanced tax preparation experiences, a Total Rewards Center, and an interactive offer letter. And that’s only in the first few months of 2022.

We can’t wait to show you what else we have planned to help HR and People teams to make their day-to-day easier while empowering employees to take control of their financial future.
